The first few months of Fatherhood can be confusing and overwhelming. Here are 5 hacks to make the transition into being a Father as seamless as possible.
1. Don't assume, discuss
There are MANY different ways of parenting, and it is imperative to make a plan with your girl before the baby is born. Emotions will be running high once the baby is here, and there is no room for disagreements. Will your baby be breastfed or formula fed? Will he sleep with you or in a bassinet? Who will be responsible for baths? Bedtime?
2. Supporting her is supporting your baby
You might feel useless the first few weeks since the baby only wants his mother. Don’t let it get you down… that is how nature designed it. By making sure she is fed and the house is clean you are providing the best-equipped mother to your child. Don’t worry Dad, as the months pass baby’s desire for you will change quickly.
3. Take advantage of bath time and playtime
These are 2 rituals that you can partake in daily to build a relationship with your baby. Set aside 30 mins to play and tell your girl you’re the captain of the bath. You will get a chance to bond with your baby, and she will get some well-deserved time off.
4. Master swaddling
Wrapping your baby up like a burrito makes them snuggly and comfortable just like mom’s womb. If you want them to be just as cozy with you as with Mom, swaddle them! Babies love it.
5. Remember, no one knows what they are doing
Do you feel lost and confused because you don’t know what to do or how to help? Guess what... No one knows what to do! Figuring it out along the way is completely normal and all new dads feel the same way. Luckily we have a Dad support group to help you! Keep reading.
